Kimberley Rangers Join Australia’s First National Indigenous Women Rangers Network
In March, Kimberley Rangers proudly joined 190 rangers from across the country in Gimuy (Cairns) for Australia’s first National Indigenous Women Rangers Network, a landmark gathering celebrating the leadership, resilience, and impact of Indigenous women in land and sea management.
20 women rangers from Kija, Bardi Jawi Oorany, Gooniyandi, Balanggarra, Yawuru, Dambimangari, Ngurrara and Karajarri ranger teams spent three days connecting, learning, and exploring the beautiful Country around Gimuy guided by Traditional Owners and the Queensland Women’s Ranger Network.
Both Kimberley Rangers and KLC Land and Sea Management Unit staff shared their experiences and expertise, presenting on the critical work being done to care for Country across the Kimberley.
KLC Women’s Ranger Development Coordinator, Zaripha Barnes, said the event left everyone feeling proud of the amazing community women rangers are building around Australia.
“We heard from so many incredible women from across Australia, sharing their stories and strategies for change. Together, women rangers will play a vital role in shaping the future of land and sea management.
We all flew home to the Kimberley feeling empowered and proud of the amazing community we are building around Australia. It is inspiring to see the leadership and impact women in Land and Sea teams are making.”
The forum ended with a beautiful gala to celebrate International Women’s Day, honouring the strength, resilience, and leadership of women everywhere.
Thank you to the Queensland Women’s Ranger Network for hosting such a special and important week.
