Kimberley Indigenous women’s strategy

This International Women’s Day we are so proud to celebrate the release of the first Kimberley Indigenous Women’s Ranger Strategy.

Born from the seed of a conversation held on Bunuba Country at Bandilngan in 2019, more than 50 Kimberley women rangers have since contributed to the development of the strategy, identifying what they value and want to protect, and how to form a strong network.

The strategy is the result of this collective thinking and sharing from many generations of women leaders and rangers.

Our vision is one in which Kimberley women rangers are confident, respected and empowered. A future where we learn from each other, inspiring current and future generations of women to be leaders

“As Aboriginal women, we have a responsibility to our lands and seas and bring a unique, essential and powerful contribution to their protection and management. Employment as a ranger empowers women and has transformative benefits for families, communities, Country and our women themselves,” KLC Deputy CEO, Sarah Parriman.

“The KLC has been dedicated to supporting the development of the Kimberley Indigenous Women’s Ranger Strategy and we look forward to supporting its implementation, seeing our women rangers take ownership over how they work collectively to grow and strengthen, not only the land management outcomes but their contributions to the wellbeing of their communities, families and lives.”

Please enjoy this incredible insight into the work of the many inspiring women rangers and leaders in the Kimberley.

Thank you to every single woman and women’s ranger group who has contributed over the years
