Nyikina Warawa
Claim history:
Nyikina Warawa is a proposed new claim that would include land east of Derby and the National Trust, heritage-listed old Bungarun Aboriginal Leprosarioum.
The Warawa people approached the KLC in 2006 for assistance in progressing this claim forward. Research and anthropological work into this claim has started but as the Warawa people have strong links to Nyikina people, it has been suggested the groups combine to form the Nyikina Warawa claim.
The claim is expected to be registered next year. A detailed connection report will then be prepared for the State Government of Western Australia which will allow for mediation to begin. It is hoped this claim will progress towards a consent determination.
