Gooniyandi

Claim status:

The Gooniyandi consent determination is undergoing mediation, after the claim group rejected the State Government’s Indigenous Land Use Agreement.

A new claim is being prepared for authorisation and mediation is continuing.

Claim history:

The Gooniyandi claim was lodged with the National Native Title Tribunal in 2000 and covers mainly pastoral lease land to the south-east of Fitzroy Crossing.

The KLC is working with anthropologists to determine the full extent of Gooniyandi country – which extends beyond the borders of the previous native title claim application.

A connection report was provided to the State Government of Western Australia in 2008. The State accepted connection on March 31, 2010.

The State engaged in substantive mediation in January 2011 and the claim is active in National Native Title Tribunal all party mediation.
