Gooniyandi

Claim history:

The Gooniyandi claim was lodged with National Native Title Tribunal in 2000 and covers mainly pastoral lease land to the south-east of Fitzroy Crossing.

A connection report, evidencing the Gooniyandi people’s traditional links to country, was submitted to the State Government of Western Australia in April this year.

The KLC is also working with anthropologists to determine the full extent of Gooniyandi country which includes land outside the borders of the current native title claim application. Depending on instruction from Traditional Owners, we will be looking at registering an application covering the unclaimed areas of Gooniyandi country by the end of 2011.

While this work is progressing, the State Government of Western Australia will be working to assess the connection report of the current claim. It is hoped that mediation will begin early next year to work towards securing a consent determination by the end of 2011.
