Bunuba

Claim history:

The Bunuba native title claim is about 6000 square kilometres and includes the Fitzroy Crossing township. The application was lodged with the National Native Title Tribunal in 1999.

The State Government is currently assessing a connection report and it is anticipated this will be finalised in the near future. This will be followed by mediation between the parties to negotiate a consent determination.

The KLC is simultaneously working with Traditional Owners to confirm the boundaries of the entire Bunuba cultural area. This will allow an application to be lodged with the National Native Title Tribunal by the end of 2011 to cover any remaining Bunuba country. This is consistent with KLC’s direction towards having Native Title determined on all traditional lands within the Kimberley region.
