Kimberley Traditional Owners made the trip to Townsville in March this year to participate in the Australian Indigenous Tourism Conference 2009.
Six Traditional Owners from the Mayala, Dambimangari, Karajarri and Balanggarra Native Title claim areas attended.
Indigenous Tourism was the focus of the conference with many guest speakers from various government departments, Indigenous businesses and tourism agencies sharing their experiences and ideas.
Indigenous tourism business operators spoke about their own experiences in the industry – their success, challenges and goals, to show that Aboriginal people can be successful participants in the tourism industry.
Workshops were held on topics including Intellectual property rights in tourism, tourism in Indigenous Protected Areas, on-line booking systems, marketing and media.
